a handful of plants all over my sunny front yard have sprouted up with what looks like some kind of purple parasitic fungus. Most of the ones I've seen appear to be on the same species of plant. Here's some photos of it:

Does anyone have any idea what this could be? The internet has not been helpful so far.

might be due to Nutritional deficiencies in the soil ...possibly zero, low amounts of phosphorus

Check with your local "USDA extension service" for more info ....

Impossible to say with 100% certainty without genetic testing, but it looks a whole lot like Entomosporium leaf spot.

Unless you grow Photinia it's not a problem.
