I'm a sucker for new plants, saw this tonight after work for 50% off, was $10.50!

The leaves are huge, super soft, only 2 bad ones. And at least 2 new shoots!

Still just staring at this plant and fondling it (sounds bad), it is so pretty.

2 crispy leaves and one super-wrinkly on the edge that might turn south.

Otherwise very happy and healthy. Several of the leaves are larger than my hands and almost bigger that my men's size 11 shoes. And it's got the new shoots, haven't even removed the awesome live moss clumps yet (they smell smokey, really interesting) so hoping for more. I think the moss is a great color touch but seems to work well, very moist.

I have one just like it. I got it maybe a month or 2 ago. So far, it's doing well. I keep it with my other calatheas in a room that has high humidity and quite a bit of grow lights (nothing too direct on the leaves). One of my leaves is a big wonky due to a watering issue, but she's putting out some newer leaves. I thought she would be pretentious like my other marantas, but she seems to be less dramatic as long as I water her every 7-10 days.

Good to know, thanks!

Any pictures?

Pulled the inner pot and all the moss today, still pretty soggy.

Going to try to ID and either purchase or cultivate the moss.

Any idea what kind of moss that is?
Any good references for moss cultivation, other than keeping it moist?
I'm reading they do well in clay-based soils, makes sense.

I use several black plastic nursery trays with greenhouse covers already. If I can convert one or two to moss sheets that'd be awesome.

Not sure what a moss-specialist is called...one who specializes in Bryophytes...bryologist?

The stuff works great at slowing evaporation and adding somewhat of a humidity bubble.
Super impressed.

Neat stuff.

Inside, moderate southern exposure in the morning and western in the afternoon, bright but filtered.
A few hours out in the rain when I have a chance.

I wonder if the moss is a lichen like reindeer lichen.. and if it is really that color or dyed.
Plant it and they will come.

this is definitely Reindeer Lichen colored.
florists use it a lot. it is dead, but when you mist it it softens.
if you want to reuse it it is better to moisten it prior to handling, since it totally crumbles when dry.
it is just there for decoration, but it might be considered to be a mulch of sorts..it covers the soil, so might keep the surface moister and raise humidity a bit around the pot if you keep it moist.
