Thread OP

Help! We have a huge Japanese Beetle problem in our garden and orchard. Our new Cherry and Plum trees are hit bad -- they are literally consuming the top part of the tree where they sit during sunlight. They also are destroying a 10 year old Mountain Ash tree. They love my grape vines.

I've went to the local store and they claimed Captain Jack's Deadbug product would work, but after spraying the trees 2 days ago it has not. I've tried Sevin in the past and it seems to work for a few days and then they're right back. I pick them off and toss in soap water a couple times a day but I cannot keep up with their appetite.

Does anyone know what does work and what will not harm the plants/trees?

Sprays high in pyrethrins will help.
Neem oil sprays will also help. Follow directions.

You can pick them off as they are very slow moving. Immerse in kerosene.
But your best option is to use biological controls such as nematodes or milky spore fungus. The larva live underground as a grub and controls will be much more effective.
Once they are hatched and flying around, control becomes much more difficult.
