I recently bought a male fern and a hay scented fern at a local garden center. These are hardy natives and I have them growing in tubs in a shady corner of the garden. About a week and a half ago I noticed that something was nibbling the fronds and thought probably slugs. Today I noticed that some of the fronds were partially stripped and suspected caterpillar damage. I looked closer and found these fellows on the stems. I'd love to know what they are. Native to western New York State or maybe something imported from the production nursery? So far I haven't spotted anything on Google that looks like them. Any thoughts?
