NOTE TO ALL: You don't need to have children or grandchildren visiting to make these garden art projects. Believe me, I was planning to make them anyway, but the granddaughters wanted to come hang out with me over the weekend and I knew they would enjoy making them, too. So I just bought enough supplies for all 3 of us. Thumbs up I was surprised at how talented they both are. They want to do another sleepover again .... soon! Hilarious! So I will be coming up with more projects, though they might not be gardening projects. But then again, I already have another gardening project in mind and mentioned it to them and they both said a resounding YES!

Gigi - The projects didn't take that long. Shopping for the supplies took longer! Hilarious!

Christine - Thank you for the 2 acorns! I hope you get to make these projects with or without children joining you! Thumbs up

Question Smiling When you say you use exterior paints, where would I go to buy some? Is it something available at craft stores or in the house paint section?

Christine - You can purchase "sample" 8 oz. containers of paint in the paint department of stores like Home Depot and Lowes. I believe they cost around $3 a container. More than enough to paint details on a clay pot. I use exterior flat coat spray paint to initially cover the pots before decorating them with details. And when the pots are finished being decorated, I use an exterior clear gloss coat spray sealant to cover BOTH the inside and outside of the pots. NOTE: Spray paint the INSIDE of the pot especially because it will seal the pot so that the outside of the pot doesn't become stained with water and soil from whatever plant you put in it after the pot is completed. Otherwise the pot contents will leach through to the outside of the pot. Thumbs up

Update - Lowe's now charges $5 for an 8 oz. sample container of paint. I believe that Home Depot is still $3, but theirs may have gone up in price, too. So be aware that inflation is affecting paint also.

Since we were doing human faces, I used black (outline of facial features), red or pink (for lips), and whatever colors for eyes, and other colors to paint the rim and saucer. You can also mix colors to get another color. White mixed with any color will give you a pastel color. The 3 primary colors are yellow, blue, and red, which when mixed can make orange, purple, or green. Be sure to get a small fine pointed paint brush. I got mine from the arts/crafts department at Walmart.

I hope my experience helps others decide how to create your own face pots! Totally fun to do! Lovey dubby
