A little while ago I made this dragonfly for my garden. I lucked out and found a pair of metal wings on a clearance table at a Home Hardware. They were only two dollars and I just had to have them. It only took me a few days to come up with a plan, I used an old stair spindle cut down to size, and I attached a wood sphere as the head with two flat back marbles for the eyes. He is painted in acrylics and sealed with an enamel gloss varnish (primed with oil). As mentioned in another thread I had some difficulties with water damage due to a crack in the head, but even if he doesn't last in my garden forever, I'm very happy with how he turned out! He brings an added punch of colour to my garden when flowers have run their course, and he guides your eye along the garden wall. I only wish I had more wings, I probably would have made several more!
