Thanks, Wade! It was wonderful. There are maybe 6 tomatoes left to ripen. These won't be given away. Oh, and Dukes is my mayonnaise too.

I'm glad to hear Duke's is widely available. It is great mayo. I either didn't know about it or just didn't notice it in OH. Blue Plate is good too.

A friend made this for me once and it's my very fav thing to do with a really good tomato, an open-face sandwich. Slice a plain bagel and spread mayo very generously. Add some fresh basil leaves, slice of tomato, slice of mozzarella cheese & bake until the cheese is warm & melty. I've made these for myself so many times since that first time & it is always so good.

I will have to try that. And I have some fresh bagels. Now that's what I would like to get my hands on, some real NY bagels. No basil, please! And I would prefer another cheese over mozzarella. See how picky I am? Hilarious! I've started buying Blue Plate because Dukes is nearly $6.00 a jar here, and no matter how much I like it, I'm not paying $6.00 for any mayonnaise!

I think you'll enjoy it once you get the ingredients shifted to suit you. : )

I can't stop myself from whining - no basil?! Not even the tiny, most tender little new leaves at the tip? Those are what I use for something like that.

At the rate prices are rising, we'll be eating mayo-free sandwiches, or meatless. Not sure which I would give up first. Can't grow a tomato to save my life. I used to have amazing tomatoes in OH.

I think it's much harder to grow tomatoes in the south, we have so many diseases and insects. I do grow basil, rather a lot of it, but I don't eat it, it's for the bees. 🐝

I just don't care for the taste of basil. Now I do use plenty of oregano and thyme! And dill, We eat a lot of fish and dill is the perfect herb to season fish.

OK. The only herbal flavor that usually turns me off is caraway seeds. Once in a while I don't mind, if it's not too much & I'm really hungry.

Ever try tarragon on the fish? I like that a lot too.

Yes, tarragon is wonderful, I get it I. The produce section at Wal Mart. I happen to like caraway, I really like my rue bread to have a heavy hand with the seeds. I also use them mostly I. Things like egg salad and potato salad. It does take some getting used to! I've been eating rye bread since I was around 5 years old. Yes, I was a weird kid! Haven't changed, just got more used to it. The years of trying to put a square peg in a round hole are over.

I don't think it's weird to eat anything considered food, but different people definitely have various preferences.
