I found this growing on my Yoshino Cherry tree today. Was wondering if anyone could help identify it. Its smooth, hard and shiny. Its only on 1 branch so far, but I dont want it to spread if its a fungus or disease.

That looks like a Tent Caterpillar egg case. They like to use fruiting trees like cherry and plum. You probably want to remove it now before they hatch. They can devour the leaves of the entire tree in no time...
