central Oklahoma had and is experiencing 26 days of 100 and 100+ degree days. Summer of 2012 or 2013 was the last time we had to deal with anything like this. By way of a severe comparison, last year Oklahoma City had 0 (zero) days with temps at or in excess of 100 degrees.
On a daily basis I find myself longing for the days when a late summer garden looks like the one in the main photo for this entry. This is the patio of the home I lived in as a child... my sister lives there still. By the time this photo was taken the patio shade was dense and deep. A ceiling fan circulated the air enough to cool things down some. A large cast iron rendering pot, converted to a small fountain, provided the relaxing sound of running water. There were lots of chairs for sitting and tables for meals.
Gardens are memories.
