I am going to divide a Peony and send some to a friend through the mail. I've never mailed Peonies before. Any suggestions on how to pack it? Thank you! Ann

Sturdy carton slightly bigger than roots, plastic bag lining, sawdust or peat moss.

Bloombuddies, I would set them in a bucket of water over night to remove as much of the dirt you can. As AlexUnder stated find a plastic bag for the roots and either put peat moss/sawdust or wrap in damp paper towels or newspaper. I would either cut the top to a few leaf nods or strip the leaves off before sending. Then take another plastic bag and slide it over the top. We here ship priority mail, less postal time handling is a good thing. Post Office has free shipping boxes or order online. Hope this helps.

Thank you so much for your helpful answers! This was a big one. Plan to divide, mail some and replant some.

Probably too late for your shipping Ann (and I hope they arrived in good condition Crossing Fingers! ) but for anyone else looking for shipping suggestions, while I maybe agree with washing off dirt, if only to remove any pathogens, I seriously disagree with wrapping in moist anything and the roots too should be totally dry. VERY slightly damp peat moss is good, like Alex said, but anything moist will most certainly start mould or even rot on the roots Sad
