This is the last of the work on the sedum area. It will expand as the year goes by. I put a half dozen Autumn Fire sedum behind these planters which have sempervivum, and then there are sedums in front as well. This is only one section. The garden also has large areas of Iris and a few random plants. I am really into silver-leaved plants as well now, and there will be a lot more of those. Next year I will probably put some fence panel stuff up to keep the neighbor's side yard out of the picture (Yeah, there is some trash there). There is crabgrass, and I will be fighting that for a while. I liked the gardens I saw that used ceramic pottery as well as direct ground planting, and rock gardens. So it is just going to be moving around for a while till I decide on the final layout.

Thanks, I'll probably spray paint that gray/white planter. It is plaster or something, but it has a nice shape.

Beautiful plants and beautiful pots!!

While you still can, I would get all of the grass out of that area, and put a barrier to keep the grass on the other side. Those vine grasses are hard to garden around.

Everything is coming up after the winter. Except the sedum reflexum which is evergreen. I am propagating the reflexum to make some more pots of it. I moved the hens and chicks for now to a sunny area. Although it is in deep shade for a bit of the morning and afternoon, it is full sun for 4-6 hours per day, and when it gets to 105 F, they will want to be sheltered a bit with a shade cloth. I added some ice plants, and bought some more hens and chicks. I agree with the grass issue.

updates: I really fell in love with the simple sedum reflexum, -- the Blue spruce, and Angelina. last year I found only one Angelina, and put it in. It is very vigorous now. I bought 3 from Walmart.com, early early like at the start of March, and was a little underwhelmed. It was very weak looking. I see now that it was from seeds, and was a "baby" plant. I just planted them in their "gallon" containers. They fell over and spread and now are starting little plants that are more like the strong ones of the first planting. Next. I was so sedum-enchanted, that I was willing to get it all over with the blue spruce. I understand that every year you do not get the same plants at garden centers, so I wanted to fill up a major spot as soon as possible. I bought 8 "half gallons" and put those in about 1 foot away from each other. This year I was surprised to see that they also had sedum blue spruce. I walked away from it, about 2 weeks ago, but then this week, got a paycheck and said, lets see-- got 8 more.
#1 poor looking sedum is actually immature sedum

#2 This is what it is going to look like-- very thick and short. This was the first Angelina.

#3 last years Blue Spruce (upper) next to the new flat of 8 new Blue Spruce (which is leggier, more etiolated). It just goes to show that the first year, it will not look as good as the next year.
