Looking for recommendations for light pink, red, white or any combination of these colors *double* tree peonies. I have itoh and many herbaceous but not one tree peony. I was looking at varieties like Joanna Gilbert or Japanese Tree Peony (Paeonia x suffruticosa 'Yatsukajishi' but can't find any place to purchase these. Any recommendations for similar looking peonies ?

Did you look At Adelman's? They are probably the only ones that still have tree peonies available to order for this Fall besides Cricket Hill.

With Cricket Hill it seems that most of their full doubles are listed as "coming soon". I did get Anelise last Fall, and was excited about it, but it hasn't bloomed so I can't say if it is as beautiful as its photos in real life.

Solaris will open January 1 again I suppose, and there will be plenty of doubles if you order early. They do sell out quickly.

Please let us know what you decide on.

I highly recommend Shima NIshiki from Solaris Farms. It's 3 colors in one: red, light pink, white.

Rizzo, when I was in Zone 7a, I found that Japanese tree peonies grew much better than the Chinese tree peony. No idea why, just my experience. Check out Charmarron Peony Nursery in California. Some people have had not good experiences with them historically. But in recent years, I have found them easy to work with, reasonably priced, and true to name varieties, especially Japanese varieties.

I think Adelman's has the best selection of tree peonies this time of year and they're all own roots.
I did not have much luck with tree peonies in CO, most lived but very few increased or bloomed well. Hoping to have better results in AL, certainly had many more bloom! Waiting until they're mature to make judgements on which are best, though.
I might try CharMarron again in the future, their roots did not do well for me in CO but now that I'm in a much warmer zone it could be a different story.

Agree that Adelman and Cricket Hill are probably the best options. There are many beautiful doubles that you could find there.

I would suggest including one of the Rockii peonies, for example, white with dark burgundy blotches in your collection, something like the double Rockiis from the page above (there are three of four of them).
Adelman's tree peonies come from their own roots, which is certainly better than grafted tree peonies. Good luck Crossing Fingers!
