Hi, I love my angel trumpets, canna and EEs. Do you lift yours or cover with a bale of straw ( I'm in the country) I know that looks redneck! Take cuttings or bring in the whole angel trumpet?
Thanks

bluegrassmom, we here in zone8b strip the Brugmansia leaves and put them in their own home for the winter months. I find that taking cuttings when they are actively growing is the best time to create other plants. Our usually go into their house whole as some have seedpods. Lucky here our canna can stay in the ground. EE will also go into the greenhouse after a little trimming. You have to do what you can to save your plants and if a bale of straw is what is needed, go for it. If you have enough bale of straw why not make a house for them with plastic for a roof?

I trimmed the brugs back and took them inside. Also took in the EEs. I send my excess to Fl where my 2 girls live.

I have a few small brugs potted and inside plus several cuttings potted to root. My Alocasia is pulled out of the outside oil, dirt shok off, most leaves cut off, and plopped in a smaller pot just the balled up root mass. My cannas are dug and stored inside. Of the 3, only canna would I feel I could have some surviving mulched. And I am zone 7b.
Oh gee, just realized I have thought zero about digging a crinum just to be safe. One has lived for 3 winters in my warm bed, so probably all ok.
Plant it and they will come.
