I have two cuttings in a container covered with plastic for a month now. I just opened the plastic and saw that they both have new leaves now. Exciting!!!!

Should I still leave them in the plastic for another month (after water it) or I can remove the plastic now? I'm in zone 10 and it goes down to 65 degrees at night now.

You will need to be sure that roots are growing, too. If you find the leaves are growing without roots, that's not a very good sign and it is likely you will ultimately fail. If this is the case, close up the bag and wait another month, then check again.

Stick a fork in the soil from the side of the cutting, then under the cutting to loosen the media so you can gently lift it out and look. If it were me, I would just leave them for another 2 weeks and then check. when you deem it is time, never remove the bag outright. First open the bag so there is a 1 inch hole for a week. Then a 4 inch hole for a week, then open the top completely for a week. Then you can remove the bag. If the cuttings show any stress during this period of adjustment, go back one step and repeat.

Thanks. I'll leave it in the plastic for a few more weeks. Should I put it in an area that has some sunlight (not all day but a few hours of the day)?

Right now I put it in an area that has light but no sun light.

No sure what you mean by "sunlight", but you always want to give cuttings as much light as possible without them getting direct sun. You don't want the temperature inside the bag to increase and cook the cuttings. Think about what happens when you leave the car out in the sun and how hot it gets inside.... and that is only with side windows. Think of how hot it would get if you had a clear roof!

Yeah, I meant direct sun. Where I put them right now has no direct sun, just light that's all. I think I'll leave them where they are.

Another question. When is the best time to put the cuttings into the soil please? Should I leave them in the pots through winter so they establish alot of roots and transplant them in the soil beginning of spring?

If by "soil" you mean the ground outside, I'm not familiar with California seasons, so I will just say it is likely best to transplant whenever new growth starts in the your spring.

Yeah, I meant put it in the ground. So I'll leave the cuttings in the plastic for another month, then do the 1 and 4 inch holes thing. I have 2 cuttings in a small container now so once I remove the plastic completely then I'll separate them into 2 different pots. Thanks
