Looks like it is Daphne odora

Winter Daphne (Daphne odora)

I agree that it's some kind of Daphne. It doesn't quite look like Daphne odora to me, the leaves are longer and narrower than mine, but there may be some variability with leaf shape?

D. odora blooms in January/February for me. RHS says it blooms in early spring in the UK. If there's a public garden near you, maybe call or e-mail to ask about fall-blooming Daphne species?

It's possible that if your weather has been flukey, that could trick plants of any species into blooming at an unusual time. Shrug!

Thank you. That is good advice. It has been warm the past week or so but now true to season - cold, windy and raining. We'll see!
