All my Lowe's plants I bought last June are doing well, I did repot them with James potting mix, the only change was I used coir chunks instead of bark, to costly here. I fed every watering with 1/4 strength fertilizer, they were outside all summer I bought them in mid September, I am very pleased the way things turned out, my Etsy cheap plants did pretty good as well. Now to get them thru the winter.

adeniums in their native habitat have only 2 seasons ....wet season and dry season ....

wet = summer
dry = winter

the wet season is the growing season ....adeniums not only tolerate 100° temperatures, they thrive in it ....

conversely - too much water and freezing temps will kill adenium ...

during the wet season is when adenium store up water and nutrients in the caudex ....then use this resource during the dry season, when temperatures drop to just above freezing

in the summer water like a tropical plant - to saturation
in the winter ...very limited, to zero water ....when in doubt, stop watering altogether

@Wiltshire Bob your adeniums are looking great! You have quite a collection! If they are still blooming, try hand pollinating them so you get some seedpods!

I agree with James that it is hard to tell if your new purchase will bloom this year. I looked closely and it looks like seedgrown not grafted Hurray! And looks really healthy.

My one year old seedlings haven't bloomed yet because I pruned them. Your new purchase look like it hasn't been pruned so if it gets enough "light" and will not go dormant, you may see it bloom.

Just make sure they are semi-dry (or preferably dry) before you bring them in. And watch out for stem rots, they are just as lethal as the root rot. You can use a hair dryer to dry the cuts faster.

I have better success hand pollinating using the toothpick method than the "brush" method. Here is a thread to get you started.

Bob I just posted this in the hand pollination thread:

Where it states "place pollens here" those are like "slits" where you can place the pollens and brush/spread the pollens upwards using the toothpick following the directions of the arrows.

Wish there was a Lowe's in my area. People seem to find a large variety of different plants at good prices and they can purchase things at half price. Here, where I live, the few stores that do have a pittance of plants, they prefer to throw them out instead of bringing them to half price. Sad

@Wiltshire, you have a lovely collection of healthy-looking, beautiful plants!

Yes we have stores here too that tossed or return plants to the vendor than discount them.
