Hello everyone. I have two evergreen trees in front of my home. I think they are a variety of cypress ornamental, but don't know the exact species. The two trees are about 10-12 feet high and have historically, been very healthy. I recently noticed, however. a lot of widespread browning and dying off of significant portions of each tree. Can anyone here make any suggestions or offer any insight based on the attached photos?

What do you mean by "recently noticed"? What is recent? How long ago were they planted and how (too low, rootbound etc)?

Conifers are notorious for going brown (dead) when they dont' receive (enough) light (actually any plant does this, but still). Also, they don't regenerate from this either, so what's brown and dead stays that way.

It is in the cypress family (Cupressaceae) but not in the cypress or cedar genus (Cupressus/ Cedrus). It's Thuja occidentalis (commonly: arborvitae, eastern or northern white cedar).

You're pretty far south for this tree. Is it commonly seen in landscapes where you live, and healthy looking? If not, maybe it's pushing the zone too far. Did you use magnification to look for mites or check closely for a scale infestation?
