Dutch Iris have been and are a strong favorite in my garden. And of the hybrids available on the market 'Eye of the Tiger' has easily been my favorite. Its unique appearance is described as having "violet-blue standards and sultry, mahogany-bronze falls with yellow blotches" and I guess that does describe it accurately -- but it is the dark, prominent veining in the falls that really makes it stand out for me. The colors in the bloom let it work beautifully with ferns [particularly the 'Ghost' Fern], any blue leafed Hosta, and Alliums [particularly 'Purple Sensation.']
Oklahoma gardens will benefit from planting a few fresh bulbs each fall, because the caveat 'short-lived' definitely applies here. Luckily, they are not expensive...
