Hi All-
I'm a newb to gardening and I hope I didn't just ruin my garden... help! So, I planted my garden (I live in southern Cal, weather has been 60-70s) in late Aug and I'm seeing growth but no fruiting- thought I'd see more by now. I thought that maybe the plants needed more nutrients so I just added some homemade pumpkin puree to the soil and mixed it in with a layer over top. Have I just ruined it or is there a chance this will work?

Welcome! nattybear
What are you trying to grow that you thought would be fruiting by now? Even in balmy Southern CA, it IS winter, after all!

Pumpkin puree is unlikely to harm your plants but equally unlikely to help until it's composted. It's people food. Plants need nutrients in different forms, but not until you know IF they need feeding in the first place.

Tell us more about what you're growing and how and where and maybe we can offer specific advice. Happy to hear from new gardeners. Hope you also made a yummy pumpkin pie!

Hi! I planted using a so-cal growing/planting guide so I was hoping for at least a little fruit lol! I planted:
- Tomatoes
- Cucumbers
- Green Beans
- Anaheim Peppers
- Carrots (these actually are doing great)
- Snow peas (also doing great)
- Spinach
- Butter lettuce (also doing great)
- The seed from the pumpkin which I made the puree is actually sprouting and growing

Outdoors? No greenhouse? The plants you listed as doing well are cool-weather crops and are obviously happy.

The tomatoes, cukes and peppers are summer crops and need more light and heat to fruit but they might hold out till spring unless it freezes. Feeding won't help until then. If you can show your location and heat zone, others in your region might have more suggestions. I know that some folks in parts of Florida seem to he growing tomatoes in winter but your temps sound too cool.

Given your other successes, sounds like you're doing fine!

Hi, welcome!
NMoasis has you started right.
Your pumpkin puree simply added mostly water and a little organic content. Pretty much a non event in the plants opinions. Thumbs up
Plant it and they will come.
