Can you plant these outside? I thought orchids were more fragile!

I have Bletila, Epipactis gigantea, Goodyera and Dactylorhiza planted in my yard. The Goodera is a new addition - so far, so good. The rest have been in ground for years.

I would consider that a big question?
Some terrestrial Orchids can take frost, some need a chill to flower properly.

Can you recommend a good nursery to buy a good staƕter set from? I'm in NW Florida, so we only have a few nights of below freezing weather. I really appreciate it!

I live in NJ, but hopefully our Floridians might be able to help you out here! Smiling

My favorite online shops are all west coast - for orchids, Edelweiss Nursery and Las Pilitas Native Plant Nursery. I have also ordered from PlantDelights in South Caroline.

The Bletilla are always available at our Home Depot and the Goodyera was one of two plants in a box from the local nursery - kind of like those boxes of fancy daffodil bulbs.

It depends on the species, a bulb from PNG will absolutely kick the bucket in those temps, but something like the Dendrobium kingi or specisoum will do well outside it frosts. Most of my native orchids are outside. One is in a tree next to the road where it cops all the elements all year round and usually gives about 14 to 20 spikes a year.
So best option is look up to see what part of the world your orchids are from, if it's similar to your climate you should be fine.
