Thread OP

I have a Japenese maple that is very close to the house (about 3 ft)/patio and irrigation. Should I remove this? I'm concerned about damage. Please ignore the dead rhodadendrum. Thanks

They don't develop a huge root system, so you've got plenty of room as far as that goes. The top may take some work to keep off the wall, but not that much. Do you know what variety it is? Some get pretty big but none get huge.

I think it might be Acer palmatum. I'm not positive. It has green leaves. Thank you

Probably an unnamed seedling then. One of the bigger ones, but still not a problem.

Some can get 25 feet wide ('Bloodgood' comes to mind). It looks like it has been pruned before.

If you need to constantly prune it back because it's too big, then it IS too big for the space. Looking at the top of the branches it looks like it's the case.
Rootwise it could do better also. It's root expanding capabilities have been reduced to practically 25% (the other 75% is taken up by the patio and house), making it susceptible for uprooting.

Concerning damage: are we talking about damage to the tree or the hardscape around it?
