We use a planter attached at the top of our garden statue for our birdbath and were surprised the blue birds like this depth of water best to play and bathe from hot summer heat in the southern USA

Beautiful photos! And such adorable birds, I never see those here.

My experience has been it depends on what the texture of the bowl is whether the birds will bath or not in it. I have a sloped shallow bowl and isn't deep even in the center, but it's glazed ceramic and the birds don't like that slippery finish. I put it out during the winter when I use a heating element to keep the water from freezing, because that glazed finish makes it simple for me to clean by just wiping it quick with a paper towel. Green algae still grows in freezing temps.

I have a larger and deeper all concrete bowl though that they go nuts over jumping in it and splashing around, I've seen as many as 10 smaller birds in it at once, the depth doesn't bother them at all. Sadly I woke up to it broken last summer, and while they drank from the plastic replacement I put up temporarily, rarely did I see a bird actually go into the water. I also got another concrete bowl only I set closer to the ground about 25' away and that became their new preferred bathing and splashing place.

Birds can be picky!

Hurray!

Glad to see this. I have both bluebirds and a deep old rough concrete bowl. I just never see the twain meet, so to speak, I just don't spend enough time watching, and it's not very obvious from the house.
Plant it and they will come.
