Great banner Nancy!

It's one of my favorite woodland wildflowers, too. Lovey dubby
Plus, it does well in cultivation, and spreads easily, if that's you're goal. Your banner is a beautiful reminder that spring is on the way (although I'm facing a week or more of snowy weather in the immediate forecast for SE Michigan Crying Shrug! )

Beautiful, one of my favorite plants and flowers, you managed to show all the different colors----I used to take a walk in Spring, when the Mertensia virginica are blooming, one side the blue and pink flowers, and the white and pink Virginia Spring Beauty (Claytonia virginica) on the other side---I do have some Mertensia in my front yard, but no Spring Beauty.

Another excellent banner & plant, Nancy! Thumbs up
Do you have pics of the whole plant in it's natural environment?
It's a bulb? The leaves look more like a bushy plant.
I would try to grow them, but think it's too hot & dry here.

Mertensia virginica
Delicate-looking pink buds open to reveal hanging, bell-shaped flowers of porcelain blue in mid spring. This native U.S. species is prized by bees, hummingbirds and butterflies as an early nectar source. A beautiful, hardy perennial that creates a striking contrast when planted with Daffodils. Wonderful addition for under trees!

A colony of bluebells is truly an amazing sight to behold! The blooms will last for many weeks in early spring (April and May) and will go dormant by mid-summer. Virginia Bluebells prefer soils typical of a woodland - rich and a little on the wet side.

I can't find the exact photo I made that banner from (yet), but I found another one from May 1st about 12 years ago. And there's a short YouTube video about it that shows a very good setting and shape of it in the ground.

FYI, I found a vendor on Etsy that sells 5 roots for just $2.80 + shipping.
Sounds almost too good to be true, but they get great reviews.

I'm going to try them. Crossing Fingers! Crossing Fingers!
As they say, "Can't never did."
