I'd like to cut a big sycamore tree down. Wondering if this kind of tree will grow root sprouts if cut down or would any new growth be limited to the stump?
Wouldn't want to go thru the expense of cutting it down only for it to sprout up babies all over.

In my experience, sycamores are not resprouters.

I agree. We had one cut down years ago and never had a problem with sprouts coming up. You should be ok on that.

I cut down a big sycamore tree two years ago. It resprouted like crazy last year. It looked particularly obvious because the leaves are so huge. Here is the stump with the resprouted stems this winter. I plant to cut down the sprouts before it leafs out this spring.

Are you sure that's a sycamore (Platanus sp.)? The bark doesn't resemble it, which in my experience should be thin and flakey, not grooved.

I wondered too.

I took a few shots of some leaf buds on the regrowing sprouts but I'm not a tree expert so I'm not sure what they prove. Here's a shot.

I am sure it's going to resprout again this year, so I can confirm once leaves appear.
