When does Sempervivum's growing season start? I'm wondering because I'm not sure how I'll know when my Sempervivums are growing actively enough that it is safe to transplant or repot them.

Below is one of my neglected Sempervivum. It has been waiting all winter for me to repot it in something a bit drier, and to plant those chicks.

Hello Isaiah,
Looks like something has been munching on your semp?
What does your extended forcaste look like? The next 10 days?

Hi Lynn,

Yep, the squirrels were aggressively snacking on my Sempervivums last fall.

For the next 5 days, I have lows in the mid 30's and highs between 45 and 55 degrees.
For the 5 days after that, I have lows around 41 degrees and highs around 60 degrees.

Isaiah, it looks like your weather is close to what we are getting.
Bird netting is inexpensive, and areally helps keep the pests from feedling on our semps. Have you tried the netting?

Isaiah, give us an update on your repotting adventures. I see some really pretty color coming on in your semp. You can detach the offsets and give them their own space.

I repotted the mother plant and gave it a better gravel topdressing.

I also potted up the chicks. I gave them lots of space, so hopefully, they fill in nicely.

Great repotting, Isaiah. She is already looking better. Nice things is that the new growth comes from the center of the rosette. Won't be long before you can't tell that it ever had damage.
It will be fun to watch the tiny offsets grow and fill those pots.

New growth comes in nicely when the animals eat them, I found out...
But, sometimes, if the grow point is damaged, it seems to cause weird growth. IMy 'centennial' had growth point damage and it's been growing goofy...
