Hi, I sell hundreds of perennials each year thru Songbird Gardens but my yard is the pits. I have so much clover, wild onions, a low wide leaf weed, bermuda. We keep it mowed close but I dream of a nice green grass yard. What should I do? I think starting over would be the best but now is beginning my shipping and planting time. My yard is sunny but for a couple trees. Any help would be appreciated greatly.

Hello Teresa! It sounds like you have a lot of unwanted plants in your yard, but you're ready for a change. Starting over can be a big project, but it may be the best option for achieving the green grass yard you're dreaming of.

If you're planning to sell perennials this year, it may not be practical to tear up your whole yard right now. However, you could start preparing a small section for grass and gradually work on expanding it over time.

To get started, you'll need to remove the existing plants and weeds. You can do this manually or with an herbicide, but be sure to follow the instructions carefully and avoid using any chemicals that could harm your desired grass.

Next, prepare the soil by removing any rocks or debris and adding a layer of compost or topsoil to improve drainage and nutrient levels. You can also have your soil tested to determine if it needs any additional amendments.

When choosing a grass seed, look for varieties that are well-suited to your climate and soil type. You may also want to consider factors like drought tolerance, disease resistance, and maintenance requirements.

Once you've planted the grass, it's important to water it regularly and avoid mowing it too short, as this can stress the grass and make it more susceptible to weeds.

It may take some time and effort, but with proper care, you can have a beautiful green grass yard. Good luck!

Thank you, I am going to wait until Fall now. I think it might be best. I don't want a brown lawn right now. Thank you
