I decided today to try these for the first time ever. I bought a pretty one from a box store and plan to plant it in the ground. I've noticed that most of the folks growing them on her are in way cooler zones than me. Can I rely on them being perennial here? Obviously it doesn't seem to be the cold that will kill them here. How heat tolerant are they?

I do not know of anyone on this site growing in your zone. My guess is they would require much more shade by you and I would only want ones bred from Villosa which are heat and humidity tolerant. What one did you get? And good luck with it.

Although it may have been Black Pearl. I looked these up both are rated to 9B (I am in 9A) so maybe these are heat resistant hybrids?

Could not find background plants of Wild Rose . But Black Pearl does have Villosa in it and since they are from the same series and both hahe somewhat larger leaves I think both are.

Well, we'll see! Plants like this are like a reverse zone push for me. Instead of trying to keep something not cold resistant alive, I'm trying to keep something not heat/humidity resistant alive

From what I have been reading is that they can do well as long as soil is moist and well draining and a little morning sun.

Well our 'soil'is sand and drains like a colander. I can put it in a place to avoid the worst of the sun

So....update!
I bought 3 Heucheras last year and tried them out. I listened to you guys and tried to choose cultivars that were the hybrids of the more heat tolerant strain. My garden place had 2 of those. I got a third that wasn't;t that type.

The third one ended up croaking. Just MELTED in the heat and humidity. But there 2....made it through Spring, summer, fall, and a night of 27F this winter.
