I was out in the storm at the beginning. Luckily I live on the top of the mountain. My garden however looked like I had a lake in the backyard yesterday afternoon. Can't wait to see what it looks like today.

Drizzled up til noon time.Slugs came out as well. Sun is out now and the humidity and mosquitoes are through the roof. Just awful to be outside. Picked Cucumbers, tomatoes, yellow squash and a few sweet peppers and called it quits. I'm running out of height to tie tomato plants to. Oh well they can droop on down now, otherwise I won't be able to reach the maters when they are ripe.

Karen, my tomato plants always flop over when they reach the tops of their cages and or stakes. Slugs here are just awful this year. Lots and lots of them in spite of my putting out the Sluggo Slug bait.

Anyone tried grit around the plants for slugs? Guess it won't work if everything is lying down. We had drizzle, could really use regular rain. the summer watering ban is now on.

They say anything with sharp edges keeps them away, I have 1 area of hostas that have those sharp purple stones totally surrounding them and have no problems with slugs, now my other shade garden of hostas.... I have to keep up with egg shells, but I always forget and then by the time I see holes in the leaves, too late.... sigh

To keep slugs at bay here I use a mix of coffee grinds, finely chopped egg shells and DE. Every garden bed is surrounded and heavily slug infested plants get a circle around them. So far so good. It's the walking on the wet lawn in flip flops and you suddenly step on one and almost slide to home base on a slug. Eww Gross!!!!! Somehow the slugs always seem to find the marigolds planted in planters as well.

How often to do you replenish all of it?

I only have to replenish in shaded areas about every two weeks. The beginning of the summer with all the rain was rough just getting enough grinds, egg shells to spread around. The DE washes away after ever rain but the coffee grinds and egg shells stay around a bit longer. I also found that if I mulch with fresh grass clippings that I needed to put a circle of my homemade slug protection out on top of the new clippings.

I save coffee grinds and egg shells all year from home, I also have a few people who save them for me as well and get the occasional large batch of coffee grinds for free from Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts in town.

Allison we cut down some pine branches and I used the pine needles in some of the potted plants that where getting attacked and it has helped.

This weather is just awful. Big thunderstorm this morning with just enough rain to bring out ever bug making it just intolerable to be outside. The powdery mildew is coming out in force and mushrooms have sprouted everywhere. Got some huge ones growing on a tree out back. The lawn is a foot tall and just too wet to mow. Oh well staying indoors.

We managed to get the BBQ going for some Roasted Corn on the Cob yesterday and Grilled some Sausage and Burgers. Just that little bit outside yesterday was enough.
