I'm setting up/planning water features for the summer and wanted to bring back a canna I had partially submerged in a water feature last year. It overwintered in a plastic bag in the garage (temps 40-50) and while it looks pretty sad, I think its roots are viable.

Should I wake it up early? Our last frost date is 6/15 and things get really toasty in July. I don't want to submerge it in warm water (on a heat mat or whatever) if I'm going to cause the roots to rot. Should I try to do this? I don't know how long they take to wake up, if they do, or if they appreciate help. I also don't want to wait too long and find that it's not viable a month from now.
For a time. I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.

Go ahead and wake it up. It will work on roots before sending up leaves but wake them up and bring inside when frost is possible.
