I inherited these so I do not know the species. The roots are diving out of the container! I am an amateur for real. I have kept them alive for a year. They are in a 50-70% humidity, pots in a water tray. I changed out the medium about a little over a month ago. I was told to keep the roots covered. Some friendly advice please.

Hi, Estelle!
Your Phalaenopsis look to me thirsty, especially the second plant! I would take that one out of the second pot and flood the medium with room temperature water, and don't put it back into that 2. pot, so you can see what's going on. I would probably do this a few days in a row, since the bark is relatively large and the water probably just runs through without really watering.
I am guessing that latter part. Smiling
In a nutshell, the roots are not picking up enough water.
Hope that helps!
Oh and those roots - don't cover them, if they "want to be free", I would let them. But I would water them too.

Some additional info -
no direct sun
65 - 80 degrees F
fertilize 4 times a year!

Any luck?
With chunky bark, I like to soak for a few minutes, about weekly. Then after dripping, it can sit back in a ceramic. (such as, carry the whole thing to the sink, fill it up, wait five minutes, take it OUT so it drains in the sink, afte a while put it back in the ceramic and back to where it normally sits.)
Plant it and they will come.
