Greetings!
I bought way too many dinner plate dahlia tubers, being a first-time dahlia grower. Can I hold some over through the winter to plant next season (2024)? Thanks in advance for helping me!

Sorry I just saw this, probably not. Reason being is they usually get dried out beyond effective growing. Hopefully you got them planted and even if in the ground late or jammed in to grow this season, you'll have tubers for next year to do what you want with.

Thank you! I did get them into the ground and have had a low success rate. About 50% grew. Of those several stopped growing. About eight of the original 30 planted are flowering now. In late fall I'll dig them up, clean and store. Next season will plant them in a new, sunnier location with soaker hose and timed irrigation.

The blooms aren't huge but they are lovely. I am happy! I learned!

I'm glad you enjoyed! You've got some lovelies there. Are you warm enough over the winter to leave them in ground? I have to store where I am and always loose some with winter. I have a really long winter - who am I kidding?!

Good luck to you with your planning for next year.
