I was gifted a cactus with these giant yellow buds on it. I am not sure of the specific name of it. I thought maybe a Devils's tongue?

Generaly they are hybrids of t.huascha but some have genetics from echnopsis aurea.

You will see various genus names for these South American cacti, including 3 used in this thread: Echinopsis, Soehrensia, Trichocereus. There are more. The plants in this group were recently renamed based on DNA evidence and so what used to be Echinopsis may now be found under these other names.

I cannot help get any more specific than that, but I thought a brief mention of taxonomy changes might help avoid confusion.

I wondered why it said Soehrensia. That's a new one for me.
