I was gifted a cactus with these giant yellow buds on it. I am not sure of the specific name of it. I thought maybe a Devils's tongue?

Generaly they are hybrids of t.huascha but some have genetics from echnopsis aurea.

You will see various genus names for these South American cacti, including 3 used in this thread: Echinopsis, Soehrensia, Trichocereus. There are more. Smiling The plants in this group were recently renamed based on DNA evidence and so what used to be Echinopsis may now be found under these other names.

I cannot help get any more specific than that, but I thought a brief mention of taxonomy changes might help avoid confusion.
