I only knew about Japanese & Chinese versions, but not about American.
They seem to grow slowly when first planted, and it's easy to forget about them while attending to roses, etc. But suddenly you realize (after a few years), it's "taken off" like a race horse, and strangling another plant or downspout (pic to follow).
So plan ahead & give it good support...it will need it!
I was blissfully unaware it's actually considered invasive in some states in the USA, somewhat poisonous, and can have pests and disease (though mine have been pest & disease free so far
), and can take 10-20yrs to bloom. =O
