Hi folks, I don't know much about the trees I have in my yard but one is looking pretty bleak. Attached are some photos of it as well as another one in my yard that seems to he in great shape. Last year both were nice and full. Any idea as to what happened? First picture is what both of these trees looked like last year. I have lived here 4 years and they were always the last 2 trees to loose their leaves in the neighborhood.
Thanks

Perhaps the tree has gotten too big and the fact that it is so close to the road and the driveway, is sufacating the roots?
or maybe all the salt from over the winter is causing issues? when the Plow goes by a lot of snow and everything else you can imagine from the roadway ends up right near there.

It does look like a vascular issue of some sort in that it affects only the side of the tree with roots under pavement. I have no idea what you could do to help the tree - short of removing the street and driveway.

Would it be worth removing the dead limbs and sealing those areas? Or am I better off just having it removed?
I find it strange that only this year has it looked in such a dire state.

I would not be in a hurry to remove anything. Perhaps this distress is temporary and it will do better next year. It would probably take decades to grow up a replacement.

Taking up the street sounds like a great idea! Smiling

Did your area get less rain this year? A lot of tree canopies are fed by the roots just below them so something has changed or the tree finally got to a point where that small amount of water is no longer adequate. Maybe put the hose on that side on a very slow drip.

Don't seal the pruning cuts. It has been shown the sealer causes more damage than it is meant to keep from happening.
