I am not sure where the best place to put this is. I started some daisies by seed in 2019. They grow quite well here, and now are making some nice clumps. Some are short, and one is nearly five feet tall. Why are they so different?

1)Different varieties?
ones in back might be shasta daisies, while in front might be oxeye daisies...

Or...
2)Did one plant flop forward?

I suspect the second theory.

They all came from the same packet of seed originally. I have four clumps of them. They are all supposed to be Shasta daisies. Two that are very tall, one that is medium, and one that shorter. The second scenario is partially correct on the tallest clump. Part of that clump is falling over somewhat.

If they are all the same plant then It is most likely growing conditions
some are getting more water or have more root space or are protected by the house foundation and getting a better start in life .
Many of my perennial plant divisions grow very differently in different parts of my yard.

The growing conditions should be all pretty much the same. They are all in the flower bed against the house. Some clumps are growing next to different plants though. There are irises, lilies, balloon flowers, and bell flowers, along with pesky trumpet vine.

It might be a sunlight issue. I have Shasta in part shade with different parts of the two beds getting sun differently. They handle it but can get really leggy reaching for sun. I don't have any like your shorter ones. Even when I try pruning early growth to supposedly make them bushier they get taller than that.

The ones in back look like they might have quite a bit of competition for sunlight in multiple directions if they stayed short. My guess is the ones in back are doing what my Shasta do and telling you "Challenge accepted!"
