I know that I really do or did know the name of this plant. And I also know I could post my question elsewhere. But I'm betting someone here can help.

These plants were among the many plants that I have liberated (with permission) and look ratty in the winter but come back nicely in late spring/early summer.

Ratty pic but with some new growth taken 5/11

Pardon the hose, but next picture taken on 5/18

This last picture taken June 4. After that I've been scared to go outside. But will do so if really necessary.

Could be totally wrong but a nagging voice is telling me that I need to "buy an A".

Anyone or should I post elsewhere and/or take a better picture?

Listen to that nagging voice sitting on your shoulder. Aspidistra elatior aka Cast Iron plant. The hard freeze took mine to the ground but it is slowly recovering. Hurray!

Oh thank you! And I do love watching the new growth. Looks like little tubes.

I agree with Kristi. Aspidistra. Great for shady areas.

Thank you both. I feel much better now. And I'll be anxious to tell my yard helper because he couldn't remember either.
