I am in Bryan, TX, zone 8b-9a. Summers here are brutal with heat and drought. Of course I can irrigate some.

I am looking for flowering plants to put beside this arch. I want a long bloom season, climbing form, tolerant of winter freezes. My intention was to put red blaze climbing roses on it, but they seem impossible to find. I do not want to order plants and get two little sticks with a few roots. If you can suggest a good choice of plant, and maybe even a source, I would appreciate it.

Maybe it takes a long time to grow, but remember that if nobody plants it, nobody has it.

If you're unable to find Blaze, try looking for Democracie. It's a climbing sport of Blaze and is also called New Blaze, Blaze Improved, and Blaze Superior.

Theres a yellow blooming vine I first saw in San Antonio that had to be pretty tough and looked lush and happy.
Tecoma stans
Yellow Bells (Tecoma stans Gold Star)
Plant it and they will come.

There are also lots of good rose nurseries in TX. Tyler used to have a bunch but looks like most went out of business but Chamblee's is left. Big plants.

They also happen to have Blaze. Comes in a 1 gallon or 3 gallon pot.

Looks like a lot of shade from the two roof lines.
I'd probably want to consider something a little more guarantied to be happy...
Like cypress vine. While an annual... It's extremely seedy and always returns in abundance. Attracts hummingbirds...

Zuzu, thanks for the suggestion. I will check it out.

Thanks Sally. Yellow bell, esperanza, is a shrub. I have it. Winter freezes are killing it to the ground every year here.

Thanks Amanda. Chamblee is permanently closed.

Thanks Stone. I have cypress vine. The only problem with them is the small size of the blooms. I need something that shows up from the road.
