North Central Texas (Zone 8a)
I had good luck getting seedlings started under lights and was able to plant cup and saucer vines in several areas with varying amounts of sunshine. All looked great for several weeks and a few began flowering!! Then, vines began getting yellow leaves at the bottom and quickly dying. In some cases these vines were planted beside other vines (black eyed susan, morning glory, moon flower) which stayed healthy while the C & S vines growing on the same trellis died. I thought the first one affected had been chewed at the base by rabbits. Another one I suspected of getting too much direct hot sun. I've kept them watered but that hasn't seemed to help. Every one of them is now dead or dying. I've heard others experienced difficulty with "damping off" from the ground level. Are these just difficult to grow? Is there something I should do differently? The few blooms I got were lovely but Texas heat is terrible so maybe these are just not suited to our climate. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
