Hi Rubi, hope you're finding the answers you need. Here's a link to one of our threads about Phalaenopsis
The thread "🗣 Starting out with Phals/Supermarket Orchids 🛎 ✍️" in
Orchids forum
In general, there's no set routine for caring for your Phal, you must adjust to different temperature and humidity situations to keep them happy. They always like humidity, so when you have cool temps and fog, that's going to be good, but when it's hot and sunny, you'll need to water more often. Different times of year dictate different watering frequency too - more light and longer days will make them grow more and need more water, for example.
Are you growing your Phal outdoors, or in the house? This makes a difference to care as well, because of course our indoor environment is more stable than outdoors, but generally will have less light and no wind.
What kind of medium is it growing in? If it has a lot of sphagnum moss in the pot, it will stay moist much longer than if it is in a bark chip medium, so again you must be guided by how the roots look to judge when to water. Healthy roots on a Phal are shiny and white to grey in color, but turn green when they get watered.
So many variables, and each growing situation is different. I'm in Florida and grow all my orchids outdoors all year round, but this is far from a temperate climate. My few Phals - mostly mini - grow on a cork mount, and they must be watered every day in summer to keep them cool enough, but brought into the house in winter because we do get nights below 50deg. sometimes here. They need a cool down in winter to set buds, but don't like temps below 50 at all.
