Thread OP

Anyone know if artichokes (C. carunculous) really can't be propagated from the grocery store? The one or two mentions of it online say it can't but could rooting hormone make a difference? I don't have any auxin on hand but IBA is cheap.
Additionally, Wikipedia says micropropagation may be used for artichokes, but I'm not sure what kind of methods are involved. Something something meristems and hormones I guess.
Ultimately my intention with this idea was to take a grocery store artichoke and basically leave it on the window sill until it actually flowers.

Or maybe I'll just buy some seeds and grow my own. Grin

I doubt you can grow an artichoke from an artichoke from the store. Rooting hormone won't work because its the wrong part of the plant. You can grow an artichoke plant from a root cutting or a division but not from a flower head or a stem. I guess you could leave it sit until it bloomed but you wouldn't get any seeds as the flower wouldn't be pollinated. Best to buy some seeds.
