Hi all,

Recently, I've been finding a lot of bulbs exposed or laying on the surface of the soil in my very small garden. They're not nibbled or eaten in any way, in fact, they look very healthy so I've just been replanting them. I'm wondering why this is happening? Yes, we've been having more rain than usual, but could that cause this to happen?

I don't know if this makes a difference, but they're either daffodils or tulips.

Is the rain washing out the soil? Do they look pushed up, like from tunneling?

No soil is washed away--it's a raised bed, so I would know. And it's not horribly compacted--when I replant them, the soil is fluffy and it drains well. I don't see signs of tunneling, but how would I know? There are no mounds of any kind, the bulbs are just sitting on the surface as if someone scattered them there! And they're in perfect condition too! Confused Shrug! Confused

I know, right? Do bulbs float? If so, maybe they float up to the surface when the soil gets saturated?

I see bulbs float to the top too.
Not tulips or daffodil...
Usually lycoris and Spanish bluebell.

I haven't seen a need to rebury... They grow fine when on top of the soil.

All I can add today is that I've heard of loose soil but wonder if there's such a thing as too loose? LOL!
