They are literally getting drunk off the sugar water I make and put in the feeders every two days ...

The feeders Hang on the porch in the shade.. I have about 14 baby hummingbirds and I have watched the most amazing intelligent bumble bees in that the bees

allow sometimes the hummingbirds to stick their bill down into the feeder and then nudge the hummingbird off the feeder

and then three of the bumble bees will go to that port hole and all begin to drink what the hummer spilled when they nudge the hummers off the feeder!

They know how to get the sugar water by using the hummingbirds!

this morning the bumble bees were asleep at 5:30 am under the feeder surface and on top of the feeder..At least 15 bumble bees.

Is there any thing that works so that the hummingbird babies can get to drink without dodging bees all day on the feeders?

When I take a feeder down to bring it inside to rinse it and refill , the bees go to the other feeder..Then the fresh cool sugar water in the feeder I just brought out they
go to it and also the other feeder.

It seems I will have to just let the strongest survive and try to not worry about it
and next year not put up any hummingbird feeders.

I had the problem with honey bees last year but this year no only one honey bee
here in my woods and yard has appeared..

Sheri, sorry you have had no response. What was suggested and has worked for me was to place the feeders in shade and to use a certain type of feeder, the Hummzinger. I have done both and no longer have a problem. I do hope you don't quit feeding the hummers. Good luck! Crossing Fingers!

Look for bee proof humming bird feeder too. I have the same issue if the feeder doesn't have a small cage to keep out bees. There are a couple different types bee proof feeders.

Sorry, I don't have a solution to offer. I am having a similar problem but with hornets. I just saw this feeder advertised on Amazon and thought it would be nice to try but then the hornets would be right in my face. I have tried hanging feeders in the shade and various styles of feeders but nothing keeps the hornets away.

Depending on your feeder, some of them sell additional bee guards to attach that works very well to keep the bees and wasps out. They can't reach the nectar with the guards on, but hummers can.
