I'm not going to sugar coat it I'm just going to give you the bad news.
Even though this palm, Ravenea rivularis, is one of THE most commonly sold palms for interiorscape, it's also probably THE worst choice for that scenario. Many people think it should not be allowed to be sold as a 'house palm'.
In situ this palm grows in Madagascar in standing water in the bogs that exist along rivers. It is almost IMPOSSIBLE to overwater this palm. It LIKES to be waterlogged. Growing it in clay soil is advised, because clay holds water.
Even though the roots love to stand in water as emersed aquatics, if water is allowed to hit the crown too many times, this palm is very susceptible to crown rot.
It is also very susceptible to pest infestation in the house because it needs moving air.
This palm gets to be 100ft tall in the wild. Well grown specimens outdoors in California and Florida have reached half that. It's not cold tolerant either.
Because its so NOT a good candidate for interiors cape you'd think that the box stores and nurseries would quit selling it, but the high failure rate ensures that people will try more than once to grow this palm, wasting money but lining the pockets of the plant industry.
I know there must be someone out there who could pipe up and say, I grow this well in my house. But I have not found them yet
