We have a few tree saplings we are currently (late July) growing in containers. We used root growth powder and have the containers covered with plastic to keep them moist and warm. They are doing great! What do we do with them in winter? Should we store them in our garage as is, bury the pots in the yard, or is there another answer? We live in southwest Pennsylvania. The trees are sweet cherry and weeping cherry.

I over-winter a number of cherry trees along with around 100 other species of trees in a (usually) unheated garage with no issues at all. You WILL need to toss a shovel of snow on them, or water them, from time to time. I try to water about once every 3 weeks, but I use very fast-draining and highly aerated grow media, so you might not need to water that often. Be careful not to over-water as Prunus very often shows its displeasure over wet feet. The operational phrase would be "on the dry side but not completely dry".

BTW Welcome! - If you do full repots with root pruning, Prunus comes easy from root cuttings, so save some. Success rate should be at least as good as and probably much better than vegetative cuttings.

Why would you want to repot and root prune?
