We have that. The monarch cats eat them down to nubs but they regrow.

Not too exciting to look at, but it is exciting that the plant is blooming after a year of growth. This is the chile pepper Black Naga. It is supposed to be one of the hottest chiles of all.

I have to fight the urge to grow them...I don't care for chiles at all, but you know, if you have the 'collecting gene', you want to grow everything of a kind. I want to grow 'all' of the figs, all of the chiles, all of the etc....I really do want all of those figs...I covet those figs, those I would eat....

We've had fig trees come up on their own in the yard but DH got rid of them. I could never tell when they were ripe and the birds or squirrels would eat them then spread the seeds with their poo.

There are several varieties I would like to grow here, but I'm quickly running out of tree room, shrub room. More out there sitting in pots waiting for their spot in the ground. Every time I think of a spot where I can put this or that, I do a little jig....lol..

Today I dig out some more sod on the end of one bed and dig a 10-15 gallon size hole and make a 10-15 gallon size basket to plant a crinodendron patagua. I'm thrilled to have found a spot for it, Jer is eyeing the pot, but saying nothing, biding his time, I presume, waiting to see if it's just sitting there or if I'm really going to dig a hole.

So, yesterday I brought home two more vitex to keep company with the other two I already have and am now looking around, trying to figure out where I can put them...oh, there's more...but what happens when someone hands you a plant and says, "I don't need this..."...and that voice in your head screams, "I do!"....?

We've run out of room years ago. I could dig up more grass but DH likes it. What is it about men and lawns?

It's odd to me that the terrible brambles should have such lovely flowers...

In western PA, those would be called jagger bushes (because they jag you). It's a local dialect thing.

I've never seen that before. It's not in Sunset Western Garden Book.

The problem with Western Sunset is that there are so many plants to cover, that they seem to 'trade off' and not everything gets put in there...one reason I no longer felt that I had to get a new edition any longer. With the net, so many of my books were no longer necessary.

Carol, I will have seeds at some point...

I still use it a lot. When I see something that is unfamiliar, I look there to see if it would grow in my zone. I wish Annie's would use Sunset zones. As you know not all zone 10s are the same, and the A & B don't make much difference. I also like to see what the growth habits are.
Thanks for the seed offer, but I really don't have any place for a shade loving vine.
