I suppose if you equate it in human terms, conception is probably the day after pollination. Birth would be the seed germinating. Depending on how technical you want to get, germination is the emergence of the growing embryo outside the seed, or the emergence of the seedling above ground.

Which is why I can buy a "2-year-old palm" seedling. Obviously somebody knows and tracks its birthday- (sprout day?)

If plants had Birthdays… more lady plants would be claiming status as annuals (as opposed to perennials) ..... and when they turn 30 wouldn't admit to being any more than a biennial.
