Thread OP

Hello everyone. Found this bug this morning, I have diatomaceous earth at the window seal so that's probably why it's dead. I have never seen a bug like this in my home. It has wings and the body looks gold and black. Does anyone know what this could be?

Welcome! Harry
So sorry, I can't enlarge the photo clearly. If I had to guess, I'd say cockroach, but that's not a positive ID.

Can you get right up to it and take a clearer picture? Most cell phones can focus at pretty close range.

Edit to add: your location would help.

Yes, looks like a cockroach

Thank you for your responses. I have added closer photos. When I saw it, I swept it into the dirt outside. If it is a cockroach, are there any suggestions for preventing any more from coming? I have already gone around my apartment and put diatomaceous earth where bugs would likely be.

Harry, so sorry, I'm short on time right now, and really, there is SO MUCH information about cockroaches online that it doesn't make sense for me to try to summarize it for you.

Best to research which roaches species are common in your area. There are many, many tips available for reducing (you'll never eradicate) the populations and for keeping them out of your house, from physical barriers & adjustments to chemical warfare. I find that sticky traps near the door work just fine if you don't have an infestation.

Good luck!

Keep on with the diatomaceous earth; it seems to be working.
