Dear garden enthusiasts,

I would like to ask for your kind help to ID this caterpillar. It is dead (if accidentally fell into a bird water feeder that got very hot with these temperatures we had) and I would really like to know what species it is (or generally anything you can tell me about it.) Thanks!

Is there a tree over the birdbath? Are you able to add a pic with a ruler, quarter, or pencil? It's hard to gauge the size without a scale object.

The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago. The 2nd best time is now. (-Unknown)

No tree above.
The length of this critter is slightly less than 2 inches.

Looks sort of like a cabbage looper

My pleasure. I should have added that there are many other loopers and inchworms with similar leg arrangement. That's just one moth... Might not be what you have. Hard to tell exactly after it got parboiled Hilarious!
