Hi,

I am growing a cantaloupe plant . It is now starting to flower. I grew it from the seed that I got from a cantaloupe that I bought from a store. Do I need to know what type of cantaloupe it is? Are there different kinds that I need to be aware of?

I've grown cantaloupe from store bought fruit, they did fine.
Growing from the pot though... not sure there's much chance of production...
I always set mine out in the vegetable garden.

No. Your store bought cantaloupe from which you saved seeds will be a commercial hybrid. There will be some variation in the offspring, but it will still be a cantaloupe. While there are many varieties of cantaloup/muskmelons which vary in size, netting, sutures and flesh color, Commercial varieties are normally medium size orange flesh varieties. Is your climate suitable for growing cantaloupes in fall?
