As a comment about Crabapple (Malus 'Prairie Fire'), daylily wrote:

Here in my zone 5/6 garden, Prairie Fire has withstood drought, heavy rains, ice storms, snow - all without a bit of problems. It is a four season tree. Lovely branching and bark in the winter, with the crabapples hanging on into December and sometimes January. Beautiful blooms in the spring. Lovely shiny heathy foliage in the summer. Fall, good color. The Cedar Waxwings visit it during migration and feast on the abundant fruit. A favorite.

You are so right about the value it brings to all four seasons. The Cedar and Bohemian Waxwings visit my tree by the dozens. Unfortunately, the berries become fermented after a time, and the birds get so tipsy they fly into my windows with quite a thud. I've had to put coverings on the windows to prevent them from injuring themselves. The fruit is quite large and deep red. I've had teens walk by and pluck a berry to pop into their mouth only to realize they aren't cherries.
